Sam Steele brings over four decades of martial arts experience to our dojo, with a rich and diverse background spanning multiple disciplines. His journey in karate began in 1982, and over the years he has earned black belts in three distinct styles: 4th Degree Black Belt in Shorin Ryu Karate, 2nd Degree Black Belt in Sheishin Ryu Karate, and 1st Degree Black Belt in Wado Kai Karate. This breadth of training gives Sam a uniquely well-rounded perspective on traditional martial arts.

In 2019, Sam expanded his expertise by taking up judo, where he currently holds the rank of Brown Belt. His favourite techniques—Deashi Barai (forward foot sweep) and Osoto Geri (major outer leg sweep)—reflect his appreciation for the timing, precision, and fundamentals that form the backbone of effective judo.

Sam is an NCCP-certified coach (Certification #6327124) and holds Level C First Aid with Infant CPR, ensuring a safe and supportive environment for all students. His passion for teaching is matched by his dedication to helping each student grow in skill, confidence, and character.

Whether on the mats or in the dojo, Sam’s enthusiasm for martial arts is contagious—and he looks forward to sharing his knowledge with you.
